Singer/songwriter Eric Roberson is readying her latest music release, “The Box.”
A Grammy-nominated independent artist who has organically established a huge fan base, “The Box” is Roberson’s 10th release.
Set to bow on Aug. 12, “The Box” pays homage to the place where the 37-year-old crooner first learned to appreciate music – at home. Coming from a musical family, his sister’s boombox (the inspiration for the title) was the family centerpiece of entertainment.
When asked about the songs on “The Box,” Roberson replied: ““All of the songs on The Box are my favorite!”

When pressured for some of the album’s highlights, he offered: “If I had to choose three, ‘Lust for Love,’ because it really sets the tone of the album. It is the nucleus, the core. It represents that Low End Theory bottom with that live, old school approach over top of it.”
Another tune that stands out on the CD is ‘The Cycle.’
Roberson explained: “It covers a subject that is relatable to many but rarely talked about. With this album I wasn’t afraid to bring up things that may be uncomfortable to some people, as long as it was truthful. ‘The Cycle’ is very much a true part of my dating history. Not to mention, one of my favorite rappers, Pharoahe Monch, did the song with me. That alone was a dream come true.”
Lastly, Roberson said check out ‘Do The Same For Me.’
“It was the last song we recorded on the album and the session is still very fresh on my mind and heart. For one, my father is singing on the song with me. He was singing and looking at my mom with tears in his eyes. She was crying while she watched him in the vocal booth. That experience was one of the main high points of recording this album,” he shared.
Best known for hits like ‘Picture Perfect,’ ‘Dealing,’ ‘Borrow You,’ and ‘Too Soon.’
As a songwriter, he’s penned songs for 112, Jill Scott, Charlie Wilson, Vivian Green and Musiq Soulchild, among others.
Most recently, Roberson recorded a gospel CD called “United Tenors” alongside Fred Hammond, Dave Hollister and Brian Courtney Wilson.
